John P. Carlson, MD

​Dr. Carlson's Volunteer Work​
John P. Carlson, M.D. is a Board Certified ophthalmologist and a native of the Inland Empire. He graduated from University of San Diego with honors and then received his medical degree at Creighton University, graduating Cum Laude. His ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship were completed at Loma Linda University, where he also served as Chief Resident.

He is an Assistant Professor at Loma Linda University. Dr. Carlson is very active in medical research. He is the author and principle investigator on multiple national clinical research trials. Dr. Carlson continues his weekly work at the Veteran’s Hospital, training residents in ophthalmology and clinical research. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, American Society of Retina Specialists and former President of Tri-County Eye Society.

Dr. Carlson also volunteers his services locally and out of the country to the homeless and the poor in need of eye care. In 2017, he visited the Marshall Islands where he was able to successfully perform the first retina surgeries in their country.
